About me
Hello, I’m Jamie, a qualified person-centred therapeutic counsellor.
Jamie Calvert, Dip.Couns, MBACP
I offer an empathetic, collaborative practice, tailored to your worries, needs and goals. As your counsellor, I will support you in your self-exploration free from judgement.
We all have a unique experience which can sometimes be hard to make sense of, leading to distressing feelings, anxiety and a sense of not belonging. I became a counsellor to help others develop a balance between their inner truth and the external world leading to a harmonious and genuine life.
Through exploration, your greater self-awareness will encourage a clear sense of identity, grounded in the reality of your experiences. Through collaborative working, you will gain an appreciation of your strengths and recognise your self-worth. By experiencing your reality without judgement, you will become adaptable and realistic about outcomes.
Finding happiness, acceptance and belonging is a lifelong journey. As your counsellor I will accompany you on part of your journey with empathy, compassion and acceptance.
What can I help with?
You may have one or more issues that have led to you considering counselling. Some of the specific issues I can support you with are:
Anxiety and depression
Domestic abuse
Childhood abuse
Family estrangement
Sexuality or gender identity
Neurodivergent identity
You may be struggling with unexplained distress or anxiety. It isn't always easy to pinpoint the source of these feelings and identify specific issues. Therapy can help to explore and better understand these feelings. If you would like to discuss this further you can make an enquiry here or request a free 15 minute introductory session.
My counselling approach
I have primarily trained in the person centred approach to counselling. This approach focusses on the significance of the working relationship between client and counsellor, recognising you as the expert of your own experience.
As the client, you will decide what to discuss in sessions and what changes or goals you may aspire to. We will work together collaboratively towards alleviating your distress and working towards your goals.
As your counsellor, I will listen empathically, offering complete acceptance in a non-judgemental environment. Collaboratively, we will safely explore your thoughts and feelings to nurture your true self.
Responsive to your needs I may integrate other theoretical approaches within my competence to enhance the practice. This will be discussed as part of the collaborative process.
